Creative Director & Principal Naturopath
Sally Mathrick (MNHAA, BNat (SCU), BArts (Melb), Dip Rem Mass)
Sally is a university trained Naturopath experienced in integrative healthcare, a health writer, wellness educator and was ONCE a stand up comedian.
A little history to describe where she's coming from:
Cyberia Cyber café – through crazy coinciding events Sally managed Europe’s first Internet café. CYBERIA. Whitfield St, Fitzrovia London. It was a bustling hive of excitement and creativity. In 1995, the first point and click browser was freely available and the information revolution began. Cyberia was a real-life hub for the boom and received lots of press attention. It hosted many community discussion evenings, art exhibitions, street and roof parties, web sites and DVD launches, trainings and general sharing, exploring and expanding the wonder of the ‘net. We served one of the better coffees in London at the time too!
GreenPeace – the necessity to “do something” about halting ecological destruction lead Sally to Greenpeace’s head office in Sydney in 1997. Initially as a volunteer, then a volunteer volunteer coordinator then as a paid contractor for fun(d)raising, Sally also partook in actions, such as gifting Prime Minister John Howard’s Kiribilli residence with Solar Panels wearing bright orange overalls …
Planet Ark – needing to balance the “stick” action of Greenpeace with proactive “carrot” work, Sally worked with Planet Art to establish the World Environment News, networking and sending out the top 5 environmental stories each day to a growing list of subscribers. She was fortunate also to hear a little of Peter Shenstone’s Legend of the Golden Dolphin…
OFEI – Organic Food and Education Incorporated – Southern Cross University offered a Bachelor of Naturopathy course which enable Sally to pursue her long held dream to study wholistic medicine at a tertiary level, and also had a little shed providing certified organic food to the student community. We lobbied and worked to advance the food co-op into an accessible, functional shop providing greater access to high quality nourishing foods…
Global Apothecary – Natural Medicine Clinic – was born from being inspired at the Woodford Folk Festival in 2003/4. Brainstorming with Louise Barry and an inspired group of dedicated healers, the first festival based medicine clinic was run in 2004/5 at Woodford, thanks also to sponsorship from Christopher Dean the creator of Thursday Plantation and a number of other generous companies. Global Apothecary supported many punters and performers throughout two Woodford folk festivals, a Bellingen Global Carnival and two Splendour in the Grass festivals. “United We Heal”
Byron Integrative Medicine Conferences – were established at the North Coast Medical Centre by Dr Anthony Solomon. Sally was a presenter at the inaugural conference, putting forward a framework highlighting the need for respecting different heath paradigms and using the most effective approaches available, to achieve the ultimate goal, namely best possible care for clients. Sally directed and convened the following three conferences, which focused on Pain, Depression and Happiness and Addiction and Freedom. Check out www.byroninhealth.com for the latest conference action.
